Jules is a French based producer who has done some great releases as well as being an excellent DJ. Jules told us about his musical backgrground... I grew up listening to classical. Through my mother i discovered ska, reggae and rock. There was an album with all the Ska classics and a tape by the Police which I had on repeat. Then came hip hop, New Roots and electronic music. I remember one time there was “Da Funk” playing on the radio on my parents stereo and I put my ear against the speaker and thought “i don’t know what this is but I love it!” Although I first discovered house music, I remember going to London as a teenager once and meeting a guy who gave me a CD with a few killer dnb tunes on there. I moved to Dublin in 2006 and discovered Bassbin, and that was it. I was going to the Reach and 174 nights every time I could. I learned from the Dublin crew (Ricky, Steve, Kenny, Bonz, Sho, Brez, Deego, Safety Boy etc). I met Snowball from Paris who was deep in the GLR stuff), and we started a project called Exploration with Drazel, but I wasn’t really involved as I was living abroad. I moved to Berlin around 2010 and went into house. Berlin was madness, we could put speakers in Parks and play all night. Bought a lot of house and techno around that time. I was still listening to DnB though. I play after Oozat (killer Dj) on mondays 22 till midnight UK time. My set up consists of a CDJ and a turntablso I have to play a vinyl every other tune. It forces me to rediscover some bsides or even records I’ve had but did not play. When I manage to make a tune I like I like to squeeze it in. I may have a gig in Bristol with Icon Roller this summer, and a gig at 4quarters with D3vsy. Also we try to organize reggae sessions with friends in Paris.
