Infrared: What did you grow up listening to? Jonny; When I was young I listened to a lot of classical music and in my late teens I got into jazz. I am also an organist & jazz pianist. Infrared: How did you come across rave music? Jonny: When I was at music college I started listening to Deep House music on YouTube & got into Techno when I started going out clubbing. I also became friendly with a coffee vendor near my uni who introduced me to Jungle. He had also been a Jungle DJ during the golden era. My main focus had been Deep House & Techno until about 7 years ago when I deeply immersed myself in Jungle/Drum & Bass. I have also got into Nu Skool Breaks over the last year or so. Infrared: Tell us a little bit about your DJ journey. Jonny: I have wanted to learn how to DJ since my uni days, but it wasn’t until 10 years later that I started DJing. I started on a flatmates decks & then when I moved out I bought some turntables off a DJ I knew. I mainly taught myself with of course picking up tips from friends along the way. A few years ago I started meeting up with a couple of mates for a mix locally. This then progressed to us putting on a couple of nights together & then playing at the open decks & Sunday sessions at Planet Wax. I began my Infrared show in Sep 2024. Infrared: What day and time is your show on? Jonny: Every 3rd Saturday of the month from 12-2pm Infrared: What does your show represent musically? Jonny: My show represents the deeper atmospheric side of Jungle/Drum & Bass/Breaks. I seek out tunes that have plenty of feeling, soul & harmony. When the drums, bass & synth pads all come together euphorically in a tune it is magical.
