Ratling
Ratling grew up in North London listening to 90’s pirate stations as well as tape packs from the big raves of the day. In 97-98 started raving most weekends at parties like Skelter, Dreamscape, Slammin Vinyl, Raindance and Labrynth. Around 2000 at a party at Camden Palace heard Ratpack drop Scram by Plump DJ’s which hit different and from that point started searching out what became known as New Skool Breaks. Ratling was given a show on Breakbeat Pirate and early internet pioneer Breaks FM in 2003. Rattling started to secure bookings from Birmingham to Southampton via Cambridge and his hometown of London. Ratling’s sound at this time was centred on bass heavy breakbeats and stand out dj sets included playing the Pool Marquee at Drop Beats at the Custard Factory in Birmingham as well as supporting Mechanoise record label on their 10th anniversary tour of the UK. As Dubstep and Breakstep sounds emerged in late 00’s Ratling started to integrate these sounds into his sets, and then the 140 Jungle sound took off and Ratling was on it. Ratling moved to South London and rejoined Breaks FM then followed by a stint on UK Raw London in 2023 before making the move to Infrared.fm in 2024 where he can be found every 3rd Saturday with his Break and Enter Show. Having amassed a sizeable record collection and made the move to adopting digital media Ratling’s shows can include everything from early hardcore, through classic jungle, D&B, Breaks and all derivatives of, up to brand new and unreleased music from the 2020’s jungle and breakbeat scenes. Sonically it is all about bass heavy breakbeats that juxtapose dark and light….. 🔊Favourite Venue – Sanctuary or Bagleys for the memories (or lack of) 🔊Favourite Record – Renegade Snares – Omni Trio (Foul Play remix) classic never bored of this tune 🔊Favourite Label – Moving Shadow as too many big tunes but will always have love for Mechanoise
